About CopyCat

Founded by Angie Coe and Melissa Dettloff, who met while working together at Ocelot Print Shop, CopyCat will be a printmaking studio that supports a growing and inclusive printmaking community in Detroit by offering affordable access to professional printmaking equipment, classes, and studio space for anyone to learn and practice printmaking. To get started, CopyCat will focus initially on screen printing, as that is Angie and Melissa’s specialty.

We believe that artists in our community need access to an affordable, inclusive, professional printmaking studio space. Whether you’re just getting started or have years of printmaking experience, we will offer classes and memberships for artists of all levels.

Our physical space is coming soon! In the meantime, you can meet us at one of our pop-up events, and support us by joining our email newsletter at the bottom of this page.

While we are in the process of finding our new home, the photos you see on this site are of our pop-ups and work in partner spaces.

About Angie & Melissa

Angie Coe is a printmaker and comics artist living in Detroit. She began screen printing during college, teaching herself by making posters for punk bands and political activities using the sun to expose screens. In the 15 years since, she balanced her creative work with a career in community bicycle nonprofits. Professionally she swapped bikes for printmaking when she joined Ocelot Print Shop as an instructor, open studio monitor, and member artist. She is a member of Small Works print studio where she self publishes graphic narratives. Now while raising two young kids, she continues to integrate her artistic practice with building community and putting down lasting roots in Detroit.

Born and raised in Detroit, Melissa Dettloff is a printmaker and interdisciplinary artist. First introduced to printmaking as an art student at Wayne State University, Melissa has been making screen prints for nearly twenty-five years. With her friends, she co-owned Ocelot Print Shop, a community screen printing shop in Detroit’s Cass Corridor, for five years. Melissa is the co-founder of POMPOM (Printmakers of Michigan Printing on Materials), and a member of Fiber Club* and Still Life Ceramics Studio. She maintains a studio practice at home in northwest Detroit and works as a teaching artist.
