What is CopyCat Community Print Studio?

CopyCat is a community printmaking studio in Detroit offering classes, workshops, and eventually shared studio access. We teach people how to make their own prints using screen printing, relief printing, and intaglio.

Do I need to be an artist or have printmaking experience to take a class or workshop?

No — our classes and workshops are designed to make printmaking approachable for beginners, while offering opportunities for more experienced artists to keep learning and making.

Can CopyCat print my t-shirts/tote bags/etc for me?

CopyCat is an educational and community studio. We teach you how to make your own prints rather than taking on commercial printing jobs. You can learn how to print by taking one of our classes/workshops, or by signing up for private instruction to complete a specific project.

We are also interested in working collaboratively with artists in other mediums who want to create printed editions of their work. Please contact us if you are interested in that, too.

Can I take a class if I’ve never used a press or screen before?

Yes! Many of our offerings are designed specifically for beginners.

Studio Access

Can I use the studio outside of classes?

We’re currently developing our shared studio access program. More information about membership, equipment access, and availability will be announced as those details take shape.

Who teaches at CopyCat?

CopyCat was founded by artists and educators Angie Coe and Melissa Dettloff, who currently teach CopyCat’s classes & workshops. We may also work with guest instructors and collaborators.

Can I teach a class or collaborate with CopyCat?

We’re open to hearing ideas for classes, workshops, and collaborations that fit our community-oriented mission. Send us a message with your idea and relevant experience.

Can I donate equipment or materials?

Yes! We welcome donations of useful printmaking equipment and materials. Please get in touch with information about what you have to donate.

Where is CopyCat located?

We’re located at 3546 Michigan Avenue in Detroit, inside of 27th Letter Books. We are on the lower level — please note there is no elevator, only stairs.
